2 days before December 25 - Christmas. Was Jesus born in the winter? Were shepherds attending their flocks during the rainy months at this time of the year? Would Ceasar Augustus declare a tax and make the people go back to their home city in the winter? Probably not. A more likely time was when the Jewish people were attending a holy feast like the feast of Tabernacles. We also have the timing of John the Baptist's birth which was 6 months before Jesus. We know this by the priestly duties of John's father, Zacharias, who was of the course of Abijah. The timing of his priest duties at the temple is described in 1 Chronicles 24. The story of Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth is quite telling that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost about the time of Dec 21. If you go back and look at church history, the Christ mass was celebrated at this time of year. Of course, the first pope in 325 AD St Augustine changed the timing of the Sabbath to Sunday (council of Nicea) and the Catholic Church also instituted the celebration of Jesus birth during the time of the winter solstice. It's all facts if you care to do your research.
